Call for Entries

Attention all photographers interested in showing and promoting your work in the Hudson Valley/Catskills region of New York: The Rondout Valley Business Association (RVBA) invites you to submit up to 4 entries in Visions of the Valley™ 2008/09. This contest, sure to become a much-anticipated annual event, is a community outreach program and fundraiser to benefit local scholarship programs and the RVBA.

Visions of the Valley™ 2008/09 is actually several events rolled into one: A non-juried photography exhibit, featuring works that celebrate the scenic year-round beauty of the Rondout Valley; a professionally conducted photo auction; and a juried photography contest, from which 13 winning entries, selected by a panel of distinguished judges, will be reproduced in high quality 2009 wall calendar of sophisticated design. Of these entries, 12 will be used to illustrate each of the months, with the 13th (chosen by popular vote) to grace the calendar's cover. The Visions of the Valley™ 2008/09 Calendar will go on sale later this year.

The Visions of the Valley™ 2008/09 Exhibition will be held in the restaurant of the Rondout Valley Golf Club in Accord, NY. Entries will be professionally mounted and displayed from Friday, July 18, to Saturday, August 9, 2008. The exhibition then culminates in an auction and cocktail reception on Sunday, August 10, conducted by professional auctioneer Jay Werbalowsky of JMW Auctions in Rosendale, NY. Exact time of this event TBA. Photographers will receive 50% of the proceeds from the sale of their work at the auction.

How to Enter

Entries, up to four per photographer, are to be unmounted, horizontal or vertical, 11"x14" B&W or full color prints that depict the natural and/or scenic beauty of the Rondout Valley. Prints should be submitted in protective envelope(s), include an accompanying digital image or negative, and should be dropped off in person on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, June 5-7, 2008, from 10:00AM to 5:00PM at Nutshell Realty, 3506 Route 213 (at the corner of Routes 213 & 209) in Stone Ridge, NY. Please note that all entries become the property of the RVBA and will not be returned.

After compensating participating photographers whose work was sold at auction, all remaining proceeds derived from both the auction and forthcoming sales of the calendar will be divided equally between the RVBA and the scholarships for college bound seniors.
